Meeting the Basic Needs of the Traveling Infant or New Born Baby

What are the Needs of a Newborn or Infant Traveler?

Newborn-baby-traveler Welcome to the second entry in our series on Considerations to Make When Travelling with Infant or Young Child.

Infant or Newborn Baby?

Although the term 'infant'  can legally refer to any child under the age of legal adulthood, it is derived from the Latin word 'infans', which means 'unable to speak'.

This later definition is what we'll be using here on the Fun and More baby, bike and beach vacation rentals blog.

An infant less than a month old is a newborn or a neonate.

Basic Baby Needs
Baby Clothes, Basic Layette, Feeding and Bedding Needs

A baby really doesn't need all that much more than attention during the first weeks. The following baby needs checklist will help you choose the basic baby items, or layette, that a baby needs to have, whether at home or while on vacation.

New Born Baby Clothing and Layette

  • 5-10 rompers
  • 5-7 baby sleepers
  • 1 cold weather sleeper
  • 5-7 pairs of baby socks
  • 1-2 newborn hats
Diapers and Baby Bath Items

  • 2 packs of disposable diapers or enough cloth diapers for at least two days.

  • newborns can soil up to 10 diapers per day.

  • 1 pack of disposable wipes

  • waterproof pad for diaper changes

  • 3-5 baby washcloths

  • 1-2 hooded towels

  • 1 bottle of gentle baby wash

  • baby nail clippers

  • digital thermometer

Baby Bedding and Feeding

  • 3-4 fitted sheets for crib, cradle, co-sleeping bassinet or traditional bassinet

  • 5-7 lightweight blankets

  • 1-2 heavier blankets, depending on climate

  • 10 burp cloths

  • 5-8 bottles, if you're bottle feeding

  • breastfeeding pillow, if desired

Baby Needs or Parent Wants?

There are lots of other baby products on the market that make a parent's life easier, but most are wants, not needs when talking about a newborn baby or infant in her or his first few weeks. While it may be tempting to buy every gadget on the shelf, remember, your baby will be just as happy with the basic items that he or she really needs.

Keeping this all in mind, you may want to consider keeping your baby requirements to a minimum... particularly when traveling with a newborn or very young baby. If however you are the type of parent that wants nothing but the very best for your baby, Fun and More Rentals is the only place you need to come.

The Only Baby Rentals You Need

When it comes to caring for your newborn or young baby while on vacation in the Anna Maria Island area, Fun and More Rentals has you covered.

From baby baths and baby bath seats, change tables, cribs, cradles, baby carries and bassinets... to baby high chairs, soothers, baby bouncer, baby swing and baby monitor... Fun and More Baby Rentals has everything a parent could want for their newborn or very young baby.

Of course once your baby becomes months rather than weeks old, there are a number of items most parents would consider essential. These items too will be discussed in future posts, so stay tuned to the Fun and More Baby, Bike and Beach Rentals blog.
